Promises I Made to My Mother by Sam Haskell - A Book Review

A heartfelt memoir by Sam Haskell, Promises I Made to My Mother is a riveting memoir about dreams and making them come true, values, and a mother-and-son love. It's full of values and lessons that it's almost a parable. It's full of ordinary elements about a boy's story and journey through childhood, but you realize throughout the journey that everything, every element is a symbol for something much more important.

The chapters of the book are divided into different promises Sam Haskell has made to his mother and his passion to follow those values despite the blinding phoniness of Hollywood life that beheld him. What I love about the book are Sam Haskell's honesty, integrity, sincerity about the promises, and his strong beliefs in those that made him successful and a man of integrity.

The memoir also includes anecdotes and beautiful stories about his mother and what she has taught him. It's a beautiful book that tells us that despite the dirty, often misguided world people are leading in Hollywood, man can still make a difference by instilling in him what his mother taught him and using these values as a means to be successful and get people's respect.

There is probably nothing greater than realizing that people respect you exactly for who you are as a person, not because of your status, career, or achievements. It's refreshing to see one man rise above everything bearing only the promises he made his mother.

I cannot praise this book enough because there are a lot of levels about the book that just gets you in ways you don't expect. But I can suggest everyone to read Promises I Made to My Mother by Sam Haskell so you can feel the same way about making your dreams come true as he has made me feel.
